To The Christian Girl Waiting For Marriage
Dear Holy Girl,
Many of us never get the abundantly more God has for us because we aren’t willing to go through what it takes to get there.
As I write this in the summer of 2023, a phenomenon that was dubbed as the “hot divorce summer” has been taking place. Many celebrity relationships that we thought were a forever kind of love came to an end — Taylor Swift and her long-time boyfriend parted ways, the eldest Jonas Brother (whose wives often starred in their music videos) Joe Jonas divorced his wife, and even New York’sformer mayor is allegedly going through a trial separation with his wife and broke the news in a deeply weird New York Times profile… As more and more follow this trend, the floors of our mind are littered with dead relationships.
In a time where there seems to be a growing movement against marriage and lasting love, waiting and believing for marriage can be so disheartening. Many begin to give up and start settling for anyone who scratches the loneliness itch in their heart. But I urge you not to give up hope, because your future marriage was made for such a time as this.
For Esther, these words “for such as this” of her cousin in Esther 4:14 urged her to act so that God could use her to rescue the Jews. Esther was reluctant because this mission would put her life at risk, but she trusted God.
Esther was not in her royal position by accident. King Xerxes’ decision to make her queen was not a random event either. God was the one who placed Esther in a royal position for a specific time and reason. God has also placed you into positions and situations for His purpose.
An entire nation was grateful for how Esther responded to Mordecai. Their lives were spared. How many souls can be spared in the culture where we live today when we choose to step up to service, even if it involves sacrifice? You and I are in the midst of a battle involving good versus evil. Your God-written love story is worth the arduous wait because it can be one of the greatest weapons in your possession in this battle.
Wait for a man who wants to get married to reflect the glory of God, build families that model God’s ministry of reconciliation, have a home that is a fortress for God’s work on earth. Wait for a husband who even the world will know, will tell you, he was worth the wait.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
I want the kind of marriage that would make Satan pissed because he knows us two together would do so much for the kingdom. I pray that you give me a husband who even the world will know, will tell me, he was worth the wait. Ignite the heart of my future husband to find me, get to know me, pursue me and to care for me.
Give me hope and strength for this waiting season. Help me to put Your will and Your purpose ahead of my own. I humbly bow before You and ask for Your direction and guidance, as well as Your courage to live out the calling I’ve been given for such a time as this.
